Soul Moves, An Embodied Movement Experience
Soul Moves is a stand-alone, 4-week or weekend immersion workshop series exploring health and wellness through the lenses of Anishnaabe Maadiziiwin and contemporary yoga. It has been co-created, and is now co-led, by myself and Indigenous Health Educator, fancy dancer and native dance teacher Charlee Brissette of NMK Consulting, LLC.
We created Soul Moves from our shared love of movement and embodiment. It is rooted in our belief that movement is a powerful and transformative force. One we can experiment with, flow with, be challenged by and use as a tender and soulful doorway to deep connection and self-discovery.
As an online program, we have presented Soul Moves with the St. Ignace Public Library and the Les Cheneaux Community Library - both located in Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula. In June, 2021, we are presenting Soul Moves at the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s annual conference and retreat for Domestic Violence Advocates.

Praise for Soul Moves
“This class is a synergistic experience of intentional movement, reflection, and authentic soul connection. The best possible combination of movement and intention.” - Amy K.
“Soul Moves is an incredible program that moves both you body and mind. The program's facilitators - Sam and Charlee - connect movement practice with Native teachings and yoga in such a thought provoking and moving way. It gives you tools to help you find balance in life, as well as a fabulous workout. It was so much better than I could have hoped, and I was so sad when the program came to an end. A great experience.” - Stephanie F.
“Sam and Charlie are lovely. They both exude peace and deep acceptance. They are welcoming, humble and a joy to watch and learn from because they truly put their hearts into their work. I recommend Soul Moves to anyone who wants to dive deeper into Native American traditions to learn to be a better caretaker of their body, mind and soul.” - Lauren H.
“Sam and Charlee led a dynamic and powerful experience that combined ancient wisdom from the worlds of yoga and the Anishnaabe. This experience allowed me to create a sacred space in my home and try out a variety of self care practices that I can implement into my daily life. I loved the balanced experience of movement, ritual, self-reflection, and learning. One of my favorite parts was dancing to powwow music!” - Katrina Z.
“This program was entirely unique and made me ask: “why aren’t more people doing sessions like this?!”. The incorporation of movement, contemporary dancing, native dancing, and cross-cultural learning was a source of escape and nourishment for me. The facilitators offer modifications for every fitness level and empower you to reflect on key lessons during and after each session. If you have an opportunity to experience the inclusive and welcoming space that is Soul Moves, sign up! You won’t regret it.” - Kathleen K.
“This program was a breath of fresh air and allowed me to connect with people from all over while connecting with myself. It provided a lovely balance of introspection and fun. Thank you for making this space available!” - Angela F.
